Disorganized Chaos.....yep, that's my life!

growing up is hard to do.....

I remember the friendship drama that cam along with middle and high school.  I was just as dramatic or even more than the next typical girl.  I chose friends who were in my classes, on my social level, and interested in things that I was interested in.  Along with that came petty fights over boys, talking about one another behind backs, and mother's warnings to stay away from certain girls.  I seriously thought all of that was over as I graduated from high school.  What a joke......although friendships are different now, they are still difficult, but oh so important.  Adult women need friends as badly as little girls.  We thrive on our friendships.  Friends can help you with marital and mothering advice.  They can help you out when you are in a bind.  They can understand your sometimes (lol) insensitive husband and bratty kids.  A bottle of wine and an hour of their company can keep you going for a week. They laugh with you, cry with you, and support you.  Friends are a lifeboat for me in this sea of chaos that I call life.

But I have found that the drama doesn't leave when you receive your high school diploma, the moody teenagers are still alive within.  Unfortunately, friendships in the adult world can be just as complicated as they were back then.  I struggle with this because I don't think they should be, but I care to much about my pals to just let go.

I am still friends today with people that I met in preschool and kindergarten.  Our friendship has taken on different looks over the years, but it is dependable, open, and consistent. These are the friends that I don't have to talk to on a daily or even weekly basis, but we can still pick up like it was yesterday.  There are people that I have talked to on an hourly basis for years that I have no contact with anymore due to location and job changes.  Those are sad, but a part of life.

I guess we still have some of the same criteria for picking friends.....location:  some of my best friends are my neighbors.....it's convienent and they are around all of the time.  I don't think that I pick pals based on any "social level" anymore, but am often friends with my kids' friends....and we already discussed how they pick theirs.

My biggest surprise and frustration with friends are how quickly adults are to write you off as a friend after one issue.  I know I have been guilty of this myself, but often wonder why we don't have the forgiving power of children.  We hold grudges and base our outlook of others based on one isolated event.  We even sometimes let others' opinions affect ours.

I have lost friends over the years do to distance, differing values, not being at the same stages in life, silly incidents, miscommunication, and unforgiveness.  These losses make me sad, but are the scars of growth....some necessary, some not.  However, I am so thankful for those who are my lifelong pals, the friends who I have lost touch with along the way, and the ones that presently support and encourage me daily.  Sometimes we just need to step back and show gratitude to those who we truly call friends.  Where would we be without them?

Christmas 2011

I haven't blogged in sooooo long, but I am back and ready to make it a priority for myself and my family! it is January 12, 2012. I am readily anticipating the new year....excited for some new things going on in our lives and for some new goals that we have set as individuals, a couple, and as a family unit!

We have vowed to have much more fun in 2012! We are starting out by planning four, yes FOUR, big family trips this year....it is a big year for the Holts. We will start by taking a much needed cruise (just Mike and I) in March. This is our reward for a big 2011....where we worked hard to get ourselves financially where we need to be! Over spring break we are planning a family trip to the Great Wolf Lodge. We are going to surprise the kids with the trip! Next, Mike and I will travel somewhere (he hasn't told me yet) tropical to celebrate 10 years of marriage! In November we will take a family vacation to Disney World with the Dobson family. It will be Alex's first trip to see Mickey! There will be other trips during the year too....camping over Memorial Day with the neighbors and a week at the beach with Mom, Dad, Jason, Mike and the kids! I am ready to kick back and have a great year!

Here is a pic from our Christmas photo shoot; enjoy!

June 2010

This month has flown by! We have spent so much time just playing once school was out on June 10. Alex traveled to North Myrtle Beach with his MawMaw and PawPaw during the second week of June. Addison is heading there with them next week. Mike and I have each had our boy/girl weekends at the beach and are now just enjoying our house and our family! Addison and Alex both LOVE the pool. They also love to go to story time at the library, play in the play place at McDonalds, and take day trips to various kid friendly locations. My favorite outing this month was to go see Steph and Dion's newest addition, Carly Mae! She is PRECIOUS! Cannot wait to see what July holds for the Holts....other than my birthday, of course! New pics to come soon!

First Picture Together

I took Addison and Alex to get pics made for Christmas. I expected the worst, but was pleased and surprised with the outcome of the photo session. I took more pictures of Addie because Alex had his own photo shoot last month. She had school pictures done, but the blue background clashed with her teal green shirt...therefore....we didn't order any!

I just signed up to scrapbook digitally because I realize that I don't have time or space to get all of my scrapbooking stuff out to do it anymore. Plus...whenever I do drag it all out...Addison thinks that she should be doing it too. Hopefully I will have some pages to post on here soon! I am very excited about this! There is no paper to keep up with, but the results are virtually the same!

Halloween

Addison had a great time trick or treating in the hood on Halloween night. She, much to my dismay, dressed up as Gabriella from High School Musical. I wanted her to be Batgirl, but she wasn't feeling it. So....I made her take her HSM microphone and sing a song at every house that she stopped at. It was hilarious. Alex was dressed in his "I love my mummy" shirt and matching hat! It was too cute!

Daddy Time

Mike has begun to interact more with Alex now that his personality is developing. He has silly nicknames for him and sings inappropriate songs to him. He is already treating his boy so diferent than he did Addison. I think that he is ready for him to start wrestling him in the floor any day. This boy is going to be wide open if his father has anything to do with it. Mike is also enjoying watching and sometimes coaching Addison in soccer. He loves her agressive play on the field and is her biggest supporter.
